Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hasan Shaybani received Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlic Radman and his delegation on Wednesday.

The two ministers held a joint press conference following the meeting at the Tishreen Palace in the capital Damascus.

Croatia is ready to open an embassy in Damascus and would work with its Syrian counterparts on this matter, Croatin top diplomat said.

Referring to the difficulties faced by the Syrian people during the years of war, Radman said that Croatia supports a comprehensive process for stability and welcomes the lifting of US and European sanctions during the reconstruction process.

Syrian Foreign Minister Shaybani said that a new era based on mutual respect had begun in relations between the two countries.

Stating that they would focus on establishing concrete cooperation with international partners with the lifting of restrictions on Syria, Shaybani said, “Developing cooperation in different areas and the country's reconstruction process were among the prominent items on the agenda.”

Referring to Croatia's experience in post-war recovery, Shaybani said this experience could be beneficial for Syria.

Touching on Israel's attacks, Shaybani emphasized that these attacks were a clear violation of international law and called on the international community to hold Israel accountable.
