Italy: Firefighters Dramatically Rescue Car From Flooded Ditch During Italy Storms
Rome, Italy - September 10, 2025 Video captured on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, shows firefighters rescuing a car from a flood-swollen ditch amid severe storms across Italy. The extreme weather caused widespread disruption in Lazio, Liguria, Toscana, and Lombardia, prompting hundreds of emergency operations. In Rome, the fire command center received 100 requests for assistance overnight. Crews worked in Bracciano, Sacrofano, Montelibretti, Castelli Romani, and parts of the Roman coastline, clearing fallen trees and branches, repairing water damage, and securing dangerous poles and signs. From 3:15 a.m., Como experienced 40 interventions. In Blevio and Torno, 19 people were evacuated from flooded or damaged buildings, while Lecco saw over 15 operations after a landslide disrupted a railway line. Toscana faced serious impacts as well. Massa Carrara had 30 interventions, and Livorno 60, with Isola d’Elba temporarily isolating about 200 residents due to a landslide. La Spezia recorded 40 interventions, including water pumping, securing hazardous trees, and assisting motorists trapped in flooded underpasses. The video of the car rescue underscores the extreme conditions faced by residents. These storms highlighted the vital role of firefighters in protecting communities and restoring safety during severe weather events.
