Woman stops car in middle of highway to perform hula hoop exercises
On 9 September on a flyover in Chongqing, a woman stopped her car on a white cross-hatched zone and got out to hula hoop.
According to witnesses, her licence plate ended in the number 7. Under Chongqing’s traffic restriction rules, vehicles with plates ending in 7 are banned from that stretch of road every Tuesday between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The woman may have been waiting for the restriction to end. However, it was also suggested that her car might have broken down and she was hula hooping for exercise while waiting for assistance.
Chongqing traffic police said they had received reports and verified the incident on site. They stated that if the woman had stopped without special reason, she would face penalties. Even if the car had broken down, she should not have remained in the traffic lane or on the cross-hatched area of a flyover to hula hoop, as such behaviour could cause secondary accidents or breach traffic laws. The woman will be given a formal warning and education.
