Kathmandu, Nepal - September 11, 2025 Massive anti-government protests continue to shake Nepal, led by Gen Z activists demanding an end to corruption, more transparency, and protection of free speech. The unrest, which began in Kathmandu and spread nationwide, has resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds injured. Amid mounting pressure, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned, and the military has assumed control while attempting to form a temporary leadership, with former Chief Justice Sushila Karki emerging as a key candidate. A major flashpoint was the government’s move to block social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube, a decision later reversed after public outcry. Protesters are now calling for radical reforms, including dissolution of parliament, term limits, and a transparent, representative democracy. The military has imposed curfews and deployed troops across Kathmandu and other regions. While some normalcy is returning to daily life, political and social tensions remain high.
