Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced earlier this week that the decision was made in response to the Zapad-2025 drills, stressing that Warsaw could not risk potential threats along its eastern frontier.
The closure, which came into effect at 1:00 a.m. Thursday (Belarus time), covers both road and rail checkpoints, Poland’s Interior Ministry said in a statement. Authorities noted the measure will remain in force “until further notice.”
Belarus’ State Border Committee also confirmed that it had received an official notification from Warsaw regarding the move.
Russia criticized Poland’s decision Thursday to shut all border crossings with Belarus, claiming it would escalate tensions in Europe and negatively affect trade and residents.
