Vienna, Austria - September 10, 2025 Schönbrunn Zoo has unveiled its 2026 calendar, featuring the playful antics of its young bull elephant calf. The little elephant stretches his trunk, picks up twigs, rolls in sand, and shakes off grass clippings dropped by his mother while feeding. These moments are highlighted on one side of the reversible calendar, while the other side showcases 12 special photos of the calf throughout the year. Zoo Director Dr. Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck said: "Capturing animals in an attractive and meaningful image requires a great deal of patience and photographic skill. Our Zoo photographer has once again captured sensational shots this year, allowing visitors to enjoy the animals even outside of the Zoo." Photographer Daniel Zupanc also immortalized other young animals, including a sea lion, a white-nosed coati, Fischer's chameleon, and a Eurasian lynx. Each photograph reflects species conservation efforts and the importance of zoological institutions in protecting endangered animals. Zupanc added: "With my photos, I want to demonstrate what needs to be preserved for future generations. This time, there are two motifs to choose from for each month, each intended to showcase a glimpse of the incredible diversity of the animal world."
