A group of firemen caught a giant monitor lizard outside a family's home.

Azzu Azmi had just returned from work when he saw a crowd blocking traffic in a residential area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He then noticed three officers in blue uniforms restraining the massive reptile on August 23.

Footage shows the rescuers zip-tying the animal's limbs before carrying it into the back of a police vehicle.

No one was reportedly harmed from the encounter.

Azzu said: 'A neighbour told me that children playing in the street had chased the monitor lizard, so they contacted the fire brigade to handle it.

'Encountering a lizard is unusual for us who live in the city, which is why it was so shocking to see one.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Malaysia and its other neighbouring countries. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
