Israel - September 11, 2025 Elizabeth Tsurkov, a Princeton University doctoral student, has returned to Israel after spending over two years as a hostage in Iraq. Her release was secured through a prisoner exchange facilitated by Cyprus, according to Israeli officials. Upon her arrival, she was reunited with her family at Sheba Hospital. Israel reportedly released two prisoners in return, including Imad Amhaz — identified by Israel as a Hezbollah operative and by Lebanese sources as a civilian naval officer. The second individual’s identity has not been disclosed. Mossad Chief David Barnea praised the cooperation between Israel and Cyprus in achieving her release.
