SpiceJet Plane Loses Wheel During Take-Off, Lands Safely in Mumbai

A SpiceJet flight from Kandla to Mumbai sparked alarm on September 12, 2025, after losing a wheel during take-off. Dramatic footage captured by a passenger shows the wheel detaching from the Q400 turboprop aircraft just as the plane lifted off, with the passenger repeatedly saying, “The wheel has fallen.”
The airline confirmed that the outer wheel was later found on the Kandla runway. Despite the malfunction, the plane continued its journey and made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 3:51 pm. A full emergency was declared as a precaution, but the aircraft touched down safely on runway 27, taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked normally.
Airport authorities confirmed that normal operations resumed shortly after the landing. The incident comes just a day after another SpiceJet aircraft reported a suspected tailpipe fire at Delhi airport, raising fresh concerns over flight safety.
