The 17th session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee concluded in Beijing on Friday with the passing of several new laws and decisions. Lawmakers voted to pass the atomic energy law, the law on public health emergency response, the national park law, a revised arbitration law, the law on publicity and education regarding the rule of law, and a decision to amend the food safety law. The meeting also appointed Chen Ruifeng as director of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission.　　 Lawmakers also passed decisions to approve a treaty between China and Serbia on judicial assistance in civil and commercial affairs, and a treaty on extradition between the two countries. Zhao Leji, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, chaired the meeting and delivered a speech after the passing of the new laws and decisions. He noted that the NPC Standing Committee session has conducted the initial review of the draft law on promoting ethnic unity and progress. The legislation will improve the institutional mechanisms for forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and further enhance the cohesion and solidarity of the Chinese nation, Zhao said. Zhao also urged lawmakers to effectively fulfill the NPC's responsibilities, including legislative and oversight duties. Following the closing of the meeting, the 14th NPC Standing Committee held its 18th themed lecture. The lecture was delivered by Chen Zhijie, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and covered the current trends in the development of China's low-altitude economy.
