Tunisia: Global Sumud Flotilla’s 1st group of ships sets sail for Gaza
SHOTLIST: BIZERTE, TUNISIA (SEPT. 13, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS OF BOATS MOVING OFF SHOREBIZERTE, TUNISIA - SEPT. 13: An initial convoy of vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla departed Tunisia’s Bizerte Port towards the Gaza Strip on Saturday, according to an Anadolu correspondent. The Gaza-bound flotilla includes at least 40 vessels carrying between 500 and 700 activists from more than 40 countries. The initiative aims to challenge Israel’s blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. A women-only boat is taking part in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and break the blockade. Malika, a French nurse who joined the flotilla from France and departed from Spain, told an Anadolu Agency reporter that the women-only boat carries symbolic importance. Emphasizing that women in Gaza show resilience even under harsh conditions, Malika said that they give people a lesson in humanity and set an example. She added that the boat also aims to honor the women who attempted to break the Gaza blockade in 2016 but were stopped by Israel. She said their goal is not only to break the blockade but also to open a humanitarian corridor, adding that in Gaza, which has been deprived of aid for months, change is vital.
