Passengers were evacuated from Manchester Piccadilly Station following a false alarm.

Footage shows a large crowd of travellers calmly gathered outside the main entrance on Wednesday, September 10, as a loud alert sounded in the background at around 6 pm.

Network Rail, which operates the station, said the fire alarm had been triggered in the section of the building that includes the public toilets and a Sainsbury's store.

As a precaution, all commuters were asked to leave the premises while an investigation was carried out.

Authorities later confirmed there was no fire, and the station reopened around 30 minutes later.

The fire service was not called to the scene.
