Whale surfaces at Cape Town harbour in 'rare and magical' encounter

Cape Town residents were stunned when they spotted a whale breach in the city's port among dozens of docked boats.

The filmer said: "While having breakfast at Quay 4 after my husband completed the Gun Run half marathon, we suddenly heard a strange noise coming from the water.

"At first, we weren’t sure what it was, it’s not common to see whales in the middle of the V&A Waterfront. Moments later, a whale surfaced right in front of us, spraying water before disappearing again.

"It was such a rare and magical sight, and I was lucky enough to capture it on video. We truly hope this whale found its way safely back into deeper waters, maybe even heading to Hermanus to join the other whales we’ve seen there."
