Officials said nearly 142,000 people were affected near Jalalpur Pirwala, with many trapped on rooftops and trees as rapidly rising river levels hampered operations.

Since Aug. 23, more than 4,000 villages across Punjab have been submerged, displacing around 2.1 million people and affecting over 4.2 million in total, according to the provincial disaster authority.

In Sindh province, authorities warned that overflowing rivers are expected to worsen flooding in the coming days, with Karachi already experiencing submerged streets after heavy rainfall.

The disaster marks the worst flooding since 2022, when more than 1,700 people died, one-third of Pakistan was inundated, and damages reached $32 billion.
