This is the heartwarming moment a group of fishermen helped deliver baby stingrays from a beached mother and released them into the sea.

Edi Khan and his colleagues were hauling in a fishing net when they discovered the motionless sea creature tangled in the mesh in Bali, Indonesia.

Realising the animal was pregnant, the fishermen assisted in removing the unborn pups on July 9.

Footage shows one of the men massaging the stingray's abdomen and pressing on its belly to help the pups slide out.

Moments later, the others gently carried five newborns and placed them into the shallow water.

The adult later passed away from the ordeal and was buried nearby.

Marine experts said that stingrays cannot normally pass on their offspring once the mother dies. The unborn pups depend on her for oxygen and nutrients, making survival outside the womb extremely rare.
