Qatar: Qatar condemns Israeli airstrike in Doha, says ceasefire talks no longer valid
Storyline: There is no validity to talks when one party wants to assassinate anybody who is willing to talk on the other side, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said Tuesday, as Qatar condemned Israel's airstrike on Hamas negotiators in Doha. On September 9, Israel launched a targeted airstrike in a residential neighborhood in the Qatari capital, which Israeli authorities described as an attempt to assassinate senior Hamas leaders. According to Hamas, the strike occurred while its delegation was discussing a new U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal. The attack killed five Palestinians and one Qatari security officer, drawing widespread international condemnation. "It is very clear, there is no validity to talks when one party wants to assassinate anybody who is willing to talk on the other side. What kind of talks can be held, about what," said Al Ansari. Al Ansari said Qatar remains committed to promoting global peace, particularly in the Gaza Strip, but emphasized that the nation's immediate priority is to safeguard its sovereignty and prevent further attacks. Until the issue is properly addressed, he added, Qatar cannot shift focus to other matters. "I want to reiterate that we are fully committed to defending our national sovereignty in response to this treacherous Israeli attack. We will take all necessary measures to ensure that such an incident does not occur again in Qatar. Those responsible for this attack must be held accountable. In this context, other political matters naturally take a back seat," he said. Shotlist: Doha, Qatar - Sept 16, 2025: 1. Press conference in progress 2.
