Residents dodge exploding concrete floor while cooking outdoors
This is the shocking moment residents dodged an exploding concrete floor while preparing to cook outdoors in Thailand.
Footage shows two locals getting ready to start a fire outside their home in Chiang Rai on August 22.
They had placed a stove directly on a concrete surface without any protective layer underneath.
As the charcoal began to burn, the intense heat came into direct contact with the concrete, suddenly causing it to erupt and explode beneath them.
Moments later, flaming debris shoots out, and the stove shatters across the ground, prompting them to leap away in fear.
One of them quickly tore off his shirt after being struck by sparks. Neither sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Concrete can explode when exposed to intense heat because it often contains trapped moisture. As the surface heats up from a stove or burning charcoal, the water inside rapidly turns to steam. With nowhere for the pressure to escape, the concrete eventually bursts in a violent process known as spalling.
