PHILIPPINES COAST GUARD DELIVERING SUPPLIES TO FISHERMENBAJO DE MASINLOC - SEPT. 17, 2025: A Philippine government vessel operated by the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) was damaged and a crew member injured after China Coast Guard (CCG) ships fired water cannons near Bajo de Masinloc, officials said. The vessel, BRP Datu Gumbay Piang, was supporting the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) during a government initiative when the incident occurred. According to authorities, the initiative — Kadiwa para sa Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda — aims to support Filipino fishermen operating in the West Philippine Sea. As part of the program, PCG and BFAR vessels provided fuel subsidies and ice to more than 35 fishing boats in the area. The initiative also included a mobile market service, where a government vessel purchased fish from smaller boats with limited storage, allowing fishermen to sell their catch at fair prices. Officials said the mission was intended to promote food security and ensure the safety of Filipino fishermen in disputed waters. Reports noted the continued presence of Chinese coast guard vessels in the area.
