Brian Hollenbush, Mount Carmel Township fire marshal, said Saturday that 101-103 W. Girard St. caught fire due to a faulty electrical outlet.
NCCC dispatched a 2nd alarm at approximately 15:40.The first units on scene Atlas Engine 21 went in service on Side "A" of the structure while Ladder 2 and Squirt 22 set up on the "D" side. This was followed by Engine 2 at the "AD" corner and Engine 25 had the hydrant on Mulberry and Rt. 61. It should be noted that the hydrant pressure was over 325 lbs at the hydrant and a separate gate valve was added to vent the excess pressure across route 61. The gate valve was destroyed when an internal section of the hydrant broke loose and some stones were found flowing from the hydrant. Basically I passed this incident just prior to it being dispatched and noticed all the smoke. After picking up my gear I came across Truck 2 as it was responding. additional cuts video is available.
