ICE released a video on Wednesday, Sept. 17, showing the arrest of Mexican national Christian Alejandro Lopez Cervantes during President Donald Trump’s “Operation Midway Blitz,” a large-scale immigration enforcement action in Chicago. According to ICE, Lopez Cervantes has an extensive criminal record and multiple prior encounters with immigration authorities. He was convicted of illegal reentry in 2018 after returning to the United States following removal and sentenced to 90 days in prison. More recently, Lopez Cervantes was charged with domestic violence on January 29, 2025, and with aggravated assault on May 29, 2025. ICE officers took him into custody on Sept. 9. He now faces another charge of illegal reentry. Operation “Midway Blitz” targets individuals unlawfully residing in the U.S. with prior criminal histories. Authorities emphasized that enforcement actions will continue in the Chicago area.
