NIGHT FIRING EXERCISES ORCHILA ISLAND, VENEZUELA - SEPT. 18 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “VENEZUELAN MINISTRY OF DEFENSE” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— Venezuela began a three-day military drill on Orchila Island in the Caribbean Sea on Thursday, Sept. 18, with the participation of more than 2,500 soldiers, the Defense Ministry said.

The exercise, named “Caribe Soberono 200” (Sovereign Caribbean 200), is being held on the orders of President Nicolas Maduro.

The ministry said the drill involves 12 navy ships, 22 aircraft, special forces, intelligence units, submarines and drones. It added that military measures in the Caribbean would be “doubled” in case of possible armed conflict.
