Two chinchillas named Leafy and ChinChin have become an internet sensation after a video of their dust bath routine, posted by TikTok user @leafyandchinchin, garnered over 9.9 million views. The clip shows the fluffy pet rolling joyfully in fine pumice dust, a necessary alternative to water bathing due to the chinchilla’s exceptionally dense fur.

Unlike most animals, chinchillas cannot bathe in water, as moisture can become trapped in their coat, leading to health issues. Instead, they clean themselves by rolling in volcanic dust, which absorbs oils and removes dirt, leaving their fur remarkably soft.
