TAMPA, Fla. — A driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 4 was arrested over the weekend after Tampa police stopped the vehicle using a precision immobilization technique, officials said.

With assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol, an officer safely ended the pursuit when the driver was spotted going westbound in the eastbound lanes. Police said the driver showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody.

The driver’s breath alcohol content measured .199 and .202 — more than twice Florida’s legal limit of .08. No injuries were reported to officers, troopers or motorists.

“Driving under the influence is never worth the risk,” the department said, reminding residents to make safe choices behind the wheel.
