VARIOUS OF DRONE SHOTS OF AREA WHERE SKULLS AND BONES FOUND, SYRIANS AND SYRIAN FORCES INSPECTING AREA DAMASCUS, SYRIA - SEPT. 18, 2025: A mass grave believed to contain the remains of about 100 opposition fighters from the Bashar al-Assad regime era was discovered in Syria's capital, Damascus, on Thursday, Sept. 18. The mass grave was found during investigations by general security units. Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime, mass graves continue to be uncovered across the country as search and sweep operations are carried out. Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, ending the Ba'ath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963.
