VEHICLES MOVING ON STREET ERBIL, IRAQ - SEPT. 20: Air pollution disrupted daily life in the northern Iraqi city of Erbil on Saturday, Sept. 20, as a sandstorm compounded already poor air quality and reduced visibility, causing traffic congestion. Air pollution in Erbil is fueled by oil refineries, vehicles and generators used for electricity production. The added dust from sandstorms has pushed the situation to critical levels, experts said. They warned that Erbil, which they describe as one of the Middle East’s dirtiest cities in terms of air pollution, requires urgent measures to reverse the trend.
