CBS News reported that some civilians have applied to join the militias. Venezuelan officials stated that the move is part of a “comprehensive defense” against perceived threats from the United States, while Diosdado Cabello, a senior government official, emphasized that the country is prepared for any form of aggression. Tensions between the two nations escalated after US President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of warships to the Caribbean to combat Latin American drug cartels. The Trump administration has accused Maduro of leading a drug cartel and has doubled the reward for his capture to $50 million.
