Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian strongly criticized the United States' demand for Iran to completely abandon uranium enrichment activities, denouncing it as an example of "hegemonic logic". In an interview with China Media Group (CMG) in Beijing that aired Friday, Pezeshkian said the United States attempted to achieve full dismantling of Iran's nuclear program through nothing but bullying. "As I said before, this is hegemonic logic. The United States wants to achieve this through bullying. They bombed our nuclear facilities; they have military power, but we Iranians have ideas; we have capabilities and skills. We will vigorously build our nation. They cannot forcibly deprive countries of the rights granted by international law, nor can they take away the right of nations to develop technology peacefully. They want other countries to become their vassals, to keep other nations under their control, or to plunder other countries' resources -- their oil, gas, and minerals. Once these nations' resources are exhausted, the U.S. can do as it pleases: kill indiscriminately, bomb relentlessly, starve populations, block access to medicine and food, and then tout their so-called 'humanitarianism' through international forums or media outlets. This is lying; this is power politics," he said. "Countries in our region and all nations that pursue fairness and justice should not yield to hegemony. No freedom-loving people will bow to power in any way. We have the right to conduct scientific activities within the framework of international law! To treat patients, we need isotopes that can both diagnose and cure diseases. They have no right to say, 'You cannot develop this science.' In other words, forbidding others from doing what they themselves can do is unfair, unjust, and pure bullying!" he added. The U.S. conducted attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan on June 21. U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to intervene directly in support of Israel's attempt to dismantle Iran's nuclear program marked a major escalation in the Middle East, sparking fears of wider conflict in the region.
