Sydney homeowner captures 'fireball' streaking across night sky

A homeowner in Penrith, Greater Western Sydney, captured a "fireball" streaking through the night sky on September 8.

They told Newsflare: "The footage, approximately 2mins in length, begins with an almighty roaring sound that seems to be coming from directly above my house before a bright object comes into view, streaking through the night sky.

"This object appears to be a meteorite/comet with a distinct fireball tail travelling in a direct line and at high speed in an easterly direction towards the city of Sydney before disappearing behind distant tree tops.

"If watched closely, seconds before the video ends you can see a distinctive flash of light coming from the trees that the object disappears behind followed by a short illuminating glow.

"To date I have yet to see this event be documented on any other media source, be it mainstream or social. This leads me to believe this could very well be exclusive footage of this event.

"Given the current attention that 3I/ATLAS and all relatable news on the topic in general is receiving this footage could prove particularly interesting, not only for a global audience but also to scientific communities worldwide."
