China's indigenous new generation medium and long-range fighter jets, Jet-16 and J-20, put on a wonderful air show on Sunday for spectators at the ongoing 2025 aviation open-day activities of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force and the Changchun Air Show, which began on Friday in Changchun City, northeast China's Jilin Province. The show began with a single echelon comprising two J-16 fighters. The J-16, also known as the "bomb truck," is a two-seat, homegrown, dual-engine, multirole fighter with beyond-visual-range air-to-air and air-to-ship strike capabilities. After taking off, the two fighters performed an air combat circling demonstration for spectators during which pilots would endure a heavy force from these high-speed turns. The two jets concluded their performance with a high-speed pass over the public viewing area at an extremely low altitude before landing. Formed in the shape of a diamond, the echelon of four J-20 stealth fighters appeared in the sky, after the two J-16 finished their last air performance. The J-20 is China's indigenous fourth-generation medium and long-range fighter jet. It made its maiden flight in 2011 and was first publicly displayed at the 11th Airshow China in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, in November last year. During their performance, the four J-20 fighters accomplished a series of aerobatic maneuvers, including rolls, inverted flight, dives, and high-speed turns. In addition, the year's event marked the first time the J-20 had been put on static display. The 2025 aviation open-day activities of the Chinese PLA Air Force and the Changchun Air Show is scheduled to run for five days. Since its inception in 2011, it has become a key platform to display the PLA Air Force's development achievements and strategic transformation.
