Storyline: China-built solar park fuels UAE's clean transition [Voice_over] In the vast desert, 65 kilometers outside Dubai in the UAE, a dazzling spectacle of beams flickers across the barren landscape. It's a solar-power project between China, where it's known as Noor Energy 1, and the UAE, where it's known as the fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Part of the park includes 70,000 heliostats arranged in a circle that reflect and concentrate sunlight toward a 263-meter tower in the middle. The other part includes roughly 6,000 parabolic trough collectors that act like young sunflowers, continuously tracking the sun to collect energy. So far, the park has generated approximately 6.7 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity, powering homes across Dubai and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3 million tons. [Sound_bite] Zhao Hui, project manager, Shanghai Electric Dubai CSP-PV Complex: "For the UAE, it serves as major support for its clean energy strategy. Globally, it represents a milestone in both scale and technological application of solar clean energy." [Voice_over] Beyond advancing Dubai's energy transition, the project has delivered substantial economic and social benefits. [Sound_bite] Aman Sharma, electrical manager, Dubai CSP project: "The project has created thousands of jobs, fostered local supply chains, and boosted knowledge transfer in renewable technologies. It also inspired the next generation to pursue a career in clean energy, aligning economic growth and environmental responsibility." [Voice_over] Officials from the UAE say the project aligns with their Energy Strategy to reduce reliance on oil and achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050.
