Tourists spotted Cape fur seals playing around an island in South Africa.

Footage captured by Jasmine Dhandwar shows hundreds of otariids lounging on a massive rock bed while others swam in the rough waters near Cape Town.

Most of the creatures can be seen sleeping together at Seal Island on July 22.

Cape fur seals, also known as the Afro-Australian fur seal, are the largest and most muscular members of the fur seal family. They can weigh up to 770 lbs (350 kg) and grow as long as 7.5 ft (2.3 m).

Known for their curiosity and acrobatics, they often twirl through the water and interact playfully with snorkellers and divers.

Seal Island is home to more than 64,000 Cape fur seals that gather on its rocky surface year-round. The small but iconic landmass lies about 5.7 kilometres off the northern beaches of False Bay.

The scientific name of the seals is Arctocephalus pusillus. They are a protected species.
