Kind flight attendant piggy-backs disabled passenger through the aisle and down steps
This is the heartwarming moment a kind flight attendant piggybacked a disabled passenger through the aisle and down the steps.
Taufik Simon Hidayat asked for ground staff to provide wheelchairs, but was told that no specialised devices were available to take on board the Airbus A320.
The quick-thinking cabin crew member used his initiative and carried the man out of the plane upon arrival at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Footage shows the worker carefully lifting the disabled wheelchair user, with no use of his legs, and shuffling sideways on March 29.
He then walked down the boarding stairs while the traveller's companion followed behind.
Taufik said: 'It was a valuable experience as a flight attendant. I'm very happy to help passengers who can't walk far, as wheelchairs were not available at the time.'
Standard wheelchairs usually do not fit in the narrow aisles of planes, so airlines use a special device called an aisle wheelchair. Hydraulic lifts can also be used to collect passengers with disabilities when an airbridge is unavailable.
However, as is shown in the video, less-developed airports in poorer parts of the world often lack the facilities and infrastructure needed to smoothly accommodate handicapped passengers.
