An iconic suit worn by tragic Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham is set to fetch £1,500 at auction.

The rare 1970s pinstripe suit bears an inside pocket label with the handwritten inscription "John Bonham Esq 1974". "

Bonham, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones formed arguably the most successful band in rock 'n' roll history — Led Zeppelin.

Through the 1970s the band sold 300 million records worldwide until Bonham tragically died in 1980.

The musician, considered the best drummer in the world, choked on his own vomit following a 24-hour booze binge in which he reportedly downed 40 shots of vodka.

On Wednesday (25/9) - the 45th anniversary of Bonham's death – his suit is going under the hammer at Fielding's Auctioneers.

It is expected to sell for between £1,000 and £1,500 but could fetch far more if music fans start a bidding war.

The suit was gifted to a charity raffle ten years ago by Bonham's brother-in-law Allan Weaver.

He said: "The suit was passed on to me, John's brother-in-law, by Pat Bonham shortly after John's death."

"It remained in my possession until I donated it to charity, something close to John's wishes."

"The present owner is the person who purchased it at a raffle for the charity I donated it for." "

Bonham, nicknamed "Bonzo," was the powerhouse drummer of Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential rock bands of all time."

Formed in 1968, the band revolutionised rock music with their timeless classics such as Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, and Kashmir.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers in history, Bonham's explosive style, speed, and innovative techniques redefined rock drumming and inspired generations of musicians.

His suit will go under the hammer at Fieldings' Auctioneers showroom in Stourbridge, West Mids., on Wednesday (25/9).
