Baby rescued during Typhoon Ragasa in the Philippines
A baby and pensioners were rescued as Super Typhoon Ragasa lashed the Philippines.
Footage shows the Philippine Coast Guard carrying the youngster out of a home amid heavy rain in Ilocos Norte province, on September 22.
The child and several other residents were evacuated on a bus out of Barangay 3 Nuestra Señora Del Rosario.
The Philippine Coast Guard said: 'In total, three families consisting of eight adults and four children were successfully evacuated from the said barangay.
'Affected residents were safely taken to the designated evacuation centre in Brgy. 1, Laoag City, for temporary shelter while they continue to experience severe weather caused by Typhoon Nando.'
Ragasa, locally known as Nando, made landfall in the country's remote and poverty-stricken Babuyan Islands at 3 pm local time on Monday. It arrived as the Philippines continues to grapple with weeks of severe flooding brought on by an unusually intense monsoon season.
The region's low-lying geography, inadequate drainage systems, and rapid urbanisation make it especially vulnerable to flooding.
Limited infrastructure often struggles to handle the heavy rainfall, resulting in widespread flash floods.
State weather bureau PAGASA left the Philippine monitoring zone at 8 am today after temporarily displacing thousands of residents. Authorities said one person was killed and seven were injured in a landslide in Benguet province.
Ragasa was expected to remain in the South China Sea until Wednesday, passing south of Taiwan and Hong Kong before touching down on the Chinese mainland.
