Dutch citizens protest at Foreign Ministry building over Gaza aid flotilla attacks
SHOTLIST:
THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS (SEPT. 24, 2025) (ANADOLU – ACCESS ALL)
1. VARIOUS OF PEOPLE GATHERED IN FRONT OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS BUILDING PROTESTING WHILE CHANTING, HOLDING BANNERS AND FLAGS, AND WRITING ON FLOOR THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS - SEPT. 24, 2025: Dutch citizens gathered at 4 pm local time on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in The Hague, demanding an end to drone attacks and obstructions against the Global Sumud Fleet, which set sail to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The crowd also urged the government to protect the lives of Dutch citizens and other civilians on board.
Protesters waved Palestinian flags and chanted, “Hands off the fleet,” “Stop the genocide,” and “Free Palestine.”
They called on the Dutch government to pressure Israel to safeguard the 16 Dutch citizens and other activists on the fleet.
The protesters wrote messages like “Hands off the flotilla,” “Free Palestine,” “This is genocide,” and “16 Dutch citizens are doing what the government should be doing” on the ground with chalk.
A significant police presence was visible outside the Ministry, despite the small group of demonstrators.
Israeli authorities have not commented on the latest reports, though past aid flotillas have been intercepted.
The flotilla, made up of about 50 ships, set sail earlier this month with the aim of breaking Israel’s blockade and delivering humanitarian aid, particularly medical supplies, to Gaza, where 2.4 million Palestinians have been under siege for 18 years.
UN investigators recently concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, where nearly 65,400 people have been killed since October 2023.
On Sept. 21, the Israeli army escalated its ground operations in Gaza City, which began on Aug. 11, as part of a plan approved by the government to gradually occupy the Gaza Strip.
In the central Gaza Strip, Israeli strikes on two houses in the Nuseirat refugee camp claimed the lives of five Palestinians and injured many others, including women and children.
Nine aid seekers were also killed by Israeli gunfire near an aid distribution site in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Another Palestinian was killed by army fire in Khan Younis city, southern Gaza.
The Israeli army has killed more than 65,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave uninhabitable and led to starvation and the spread of diseases.
