Syria: Drone footage shows destruction at Yarmouk camp sheltering Palestinian refugees in Syria
DAMASCUS, SYRIA (SEP. 24, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) SHOTLIST: 1. VARIOUS OF DRONE SHOTS OVER YARMOUK DISTRICT OF SYRIAN CAPITAL DAMASCUS 2. VARIOUS OF DRONE SHOTS OF DESTRCUTION IN YARMOUK 3. VEHICLES MOVING, PEOPLE WALKING BETWEEN DESTRUCTED BUILDINGS DAMASCUS, SYRIA - SEPTEMBER 24: The Anadolu team captured aerial footage of the destruction and daily life in Yarmouk Camp, where Palestinian civilians displaced by the ousted Bashar Assad regime's bombardment during the revolution period in the capital Damascus are living. Many buildings that were once used as schools, hospitals, mosques, and workplaces have either been completely reduced to rubble or only their skeletons remain standing. Today, only a handful of families struggle to survive among the ruins in Yarmouk, the country's largest refugee camp. The Syrian revolution began in March 2011, ignited by peaceful protests in the southern city of Daraa. The protests were sparked by the arrest and torture of a group of teenagers who had painted revolutionary slogans on a wall. The demonstrations quickly spread to other parts of the country, calling for political reforms, increased freedoms, and an end to the authoritarian rule of President Bashar al-Assad. The revolution ultimately led to the fall of Assad’s regime, with the president fleeing to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on December 8, 2024. This marked the end of the Baath Party’s rule, which had lasted since 1963. In late January 2025, Ahmed al-Sharaa, a prominent leader of the anti-regime forces, was declared president for a transitional period.
