Rescue teams saved 23 miners who were trapped in a Colombian gold mine.

Aris Mining Company, together with the Mining Safety and Rescue team of the National Mining Agency (ANM), successfully retrieved the workers who had been stuck for more than 46 hours inside the La Reliquia mine in Segovia, Antioquia.

Footage shows the labourers wearing helmets as rescuers in red boiler suits guided them out of the shaft on September 24.

The miners were seen carefully climbing the steep entrance and holding onto ropes as their worried families and colleagues applauded their return.

The National Mining Agency reported that the main entrance of the mine had collapsed due to a geomechanical failure on Monday, September 22.

It credited the successful rescue to its ongoing efforts to train more than 1,400 workers in mining safety, strengthening disaster preparedness and emergency response capacities.

Marcela Hernandez, one of the rescued miners, said: 'A lot of patience and faith in the ARE (Special Reserve Area) team and all the colleagues who were there doing the hard work to get us out.'

The mine's management reassured families that employees are being well looked after following the incident.

Jorge Esteban Alvarez, head of protection at La Reliquia mine, said: 'The trapped miners were provided with food, water, thermal blankets, and other supplies that allowed them to remain in good health. The ventilation system conditions were optimal to ensure their safety.'
