Storyline: Xinjiang moves forward as power distributor, contributes to China's energy transformation [Voice_over] In northwest China’s Xinjiang, the expansion of power grids and electricity transmission routes is helping power the country’s urban east coast regions. Ultra-high voltage transmission lines span 3,000 kilometers from in Xinjiang's Zhundong to east China’s Anhui Province. Power company officials say thanks to drone technology, workers can carry out crucial inspections to ensure grid stability. [Sound_bite] Guo Jing, deputy team leader, East Xinjiang Operations Division, Xinjiang Power Transmission and Transformation Company: "Compared to the past when we had to use binoculars, and had to walk the lines for inspection, drones are much more efficient and are not restricted by terrain. Equipped with infrared imagers and Light Detection and Ranging, they allow for faster, all-around inspections without blind spots." [Voice_over] As a key sending hub in China's west-to-east power transmission program, Xinjiang has five major outbound transmission routes passing through northwest China's Gansu, central China's Henan, east China's Anhui and southwest China's Chongqing. Officials from the Xinjiang Electric Power Company say delivering clean energy to the country’s heavy manufacturing and business centers in the east requires extreme attention to detail. [Sound_bite] Zhu Qing, director, power dispatch control department, power dispatch control center, State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd.: "In the power dispatch control center, where all of Xinjiang's power data is collected, we monitor system load, renewable generation and demand across all regions in real time. With the automatic generation control system, we can allocate surplus renewable energy from southern Xinjiang to the north and then transmit it nationwide." [Voice_over] Data shows that by the end of last year, Xinjiang had built 32 750 kilovolt substations and 98 transmission lines that span over 12,000 kilometers.
