Sellers protest at market in Nigeria after lack of electricity for weeks
Sellers protested at a market over continued power outages in Nigeria.
Footage shows dozens of demonstrators clashing with officers at the Tejuosho Yaba Market in Lagos, on September 18.
The protesters allegedly tried to attack a bank before they were detained by authorities.
Babaseyi Oluseyi, spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, said 18 people were arrested.
He said in a statement: 'The details of the incident are that on 18th September 2025, at about 2:30 pm, the Lagos Command received a distress call that hoodlums and miscreants had started attacking people, damaging goods and properties in Tejuosho Market.
'Further information revealed that the hoodlums attacked Mobile Policemen guarding a commercial bank within the market, who firmly repelled them and prevented them from invading the bank. The hoodlums and miscreants were also prevented from invading.
'The combined efforts of the police units successfully contained the situation, dispersed the violent crowd, and ensured the safety of the bank and its customers.'
Police claimed the attack was allegedly disguised as a protest over power outages. They assured shoppers that the situation has returned to normal, and it was safe to resume their daily activities.
