UNKNOWN LOCATION IN RUSSIA (RELEASED ON SEPT. 25, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “RUSSIAN DEFENSE MINISTRY” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Russia's Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers conducted a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Bering and Okhotsk Seas, the country's Defense Ministry announced on Thursday, Sept. 25.

According to a statement from the military department, the long-range aviation flight lasted for more than 14 hours.

The bombers were escorted by Su-35S and Su-30SM fighter jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), and the aircrews performed in-flight refueling during the mission.

"The flight duration was more than 14 hours. Fighter escort was provided by Su-35S and Su-30SM aircraft of the Aerospace Forces. During the flight, the long-range aviation aircraft crews conducted in-flight refueling," the ministry said.

The statement also noted that "at certain stages of the route, the strategic missile carriers were accompanied by fighter jets of foreign states," without specifying the countries involved.

The Russian Defense Ministry emphasized that its long-range aviation crews regularly perform such flights over neutral waters in various regions, including the Arctic, the North Atlantic, the Pacific Ocean, and the Baltic and Black Seas.

It reiterated that all flights by Russian aircraft "are conducted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace."
