This is the terrifying moment a 5.7 magnitude earthquake jolted a grocery store, sending its frightened owner fleeing in Indonesia.

CCTV footage shows the shopkeeper seated near the counter area in Fajar 2 when the tremor struck Kecamatan Pupuan, Kabupaten Tabanan, Bali.

The quick-thinking woman stood up, called out to other family members, and fled the building in Pajahan Village as a more powerful aftershock rocked the store on Thursday, September 25.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said the quake occurred at 4:04 pm local time, with the epicentre located 46 kilometres east of Banyuwangi at a depth of 12 kilometres.

The tremor was widely felt across East Java - including Surabaya, Banyuwangi, and Situbondo - as well as in several parts of Bali such as Kuta, Denpasar, and Buleleng.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or infrastructure damage. No tsunami alarms were raised.

Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes because it sits on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen.
