Judge Paul Goldspring said at the hearing that “these proceedings were instituted unlawfully and are null.” O hAnnaidh performs under the stage name Mo Chara. An earlier investigation into the Irish rap group’s performance at Glastonbury Festival was also closed for lack of evidence. Kneecap, which supports Irish republicanism and the unification of Northern Ireland with the Republic of Ireland, has often drawn controversy across Europe. The group was barred from performing in Hungary earlier this summer but went ahead with its Glastonbury set in June, where a member declared, “Israel is a war criminal.”
