US, Los Angeles: Mar Vista Waymo Backseat On Fire

Los Angeles, United States - September 26, 2025 09/26/2025 01:00 am GMT-0700 MAR VISTA, Los Angeles, Calif. – A Waymo self-driving car caught fire in the backseat just after 1 a.m. Friday in the 4000 block of South Inglewood Boulevard, prompting a fast response from Los Angeles City Fire Department crews. Firefighters at the scene had to remove part of the back seat to extinguish the flames fully. Officials could not confirm whether the fire was intentionally set or caused by an electrical malfunction. Hazmat teams were not needed, as the fire was contained before reaching the vehicle’s batteries. It was not immediately known if the Waymo was occupied at the time of the fire. The Waymo was towed from the scene. A Waymo is an autonomous vehicle operated by the Alphabet-owned company, designed to navigate without a human driver.
