Food lovers were spotted tucking into multicoloured eggs at a newly opened shopping mall in Bangkok.

Footage shows locals seated on stools, savouring the vibrant snacks at Dusit Central Park in the Thai capital.

Stacks of trays filled with green, yellow, pink, red, blue and orange eggs were displayed in front of customers on September 27.

The colourful eggs are typically dyed for special occasions. One variety in particular, the bright pink egg, is a preserved delicacy, also known in Thailand as the century egg. This pink version is a local adaptation of the Chinese 'black egg'.

The preserved pink eggs are made by ageing duck or chicken eggs in a mixture of rice hulls, clay, ash, salt and lime. The result is a distinctive treat with a vivid pink shell, a dark jelly-like yolk, and a strong aroma of ammonia or sulphur.
