Pakistan: Pakistan receives first batch of flood relief supplies from China
The first batch of emergency flood relief supplies donated by the Chinese government arrived in Pakistan on Sunday. Two Chinese relief flights carrying 300 tents and 9,000 blankets landed in Rawalpindi district, near Pakistan's capital Islamabad. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong attended the handover ceremony, along with Pakistan's Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and States and Frontier Regions Division Engir Amir Muqam and Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Inam Haider Malik. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Jiang said that to support Pakistan in response to the floods, China has continuously provided cash and material assistance, which vividly embodies the spirit of a community with a shared future, standing together through thick and thin. He said that under the leadership of the Pakistani government and with the support from all sectors of society, the people in the disaster-stricken areas will be able to overcome the impact of the floods and rebuild their homes. Engir Amir Muqam and Inam Haider Malik said that the Chinese government and the Chinese people have always provided timely assistance to Pakistan in its most difficult times, and the donation has once again elevated the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China and will provide shelter for the flood victims. They said the Pakistani government and people are deeply grateful for the help and will make good use of the supplies to restore normal production and life in affected areas as soon as possible. Since June this year, Pakistan has suffered severe floods, which have resulted in heavy casualties and property losses.
