Chicago, United States - September 28, 2025 Members of the Chicago Police Department's Marine Unit rescued a dog stranded in a drainpipe in the Chicago River on Saturday. A witness aboard a riverboat spotted the pit bull terrier near the Harrison Street Bridge and alerted authorities. Brandon Hilliard, who had been searching for his missing dog, Faroe, saw the alert on a community safety app and rushed to the scene. He met the Marine Unit and was brought aboard their boat to assist. A diver was sent to retrieve Faroe, who was nervous about leaving the drainpipe. “After a few minutes of the Marine Unit and Brandon attempting to coax her out of the drainpipe, the diver was able to use one of Faroe's squeaky toys to calm her down and bring her to safety,” the department said in a news release. Once on board, Faroe was joyfully reunited with Brandon, ending a tense but successful rescue on the Chicago River.
