Thai soldiers salute flag and sing anthem along disputed border with Cambodia
Thai soldiers saluted the flag and sang the national anthem along the conflict-ridden border with Cambodia during Thai National Flag Day.
The troops, led by 2nd Army Commander Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, marked the 108th anniversary of the national symbol in Si Sa Ket, Thailand, on September 28.
Footage shows the solemn ceremony as the tri-colour flag was raised up a pole on Phu Makhuea hill.
The area is contested by both Thailand and Cambodia and has been a major flashpoint during the 2008 and 2025 border clashes. A request for interpretation was submitted to the International Court of Justice, which ruled that its 1962 decision awarding sovereignty over a nearby temple to Cambodia did not extend to Phu Makhuea.
The dispute over the hill was left to be resolved through bilateral negotiations.
Thailand and Cambodia have been fighting for more than a century over several undemarcated sections of their 817-kilometre (508-mile) border, which was originally mapped by France in 1907 while Cambodia was still its protectorate.
But tensions flared in the long-disputed frontier as both accused each other of instigating violence on July 24, which killed at least 48 and temporarily displaced some 300,000 on both sides of the border.
Cambodia claimed responsibility for an alleged war crime, firing rockets into Thailand that struck a gas station, killing a number of children.
The two nations have reached a shaky truce following talks facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
