This is the terrifying moment heavy winds and choppy seas from Typhoon Bualoi capsized a fishing boat as the storm struck Vietnam.

Footage shows the vessel struggling against powerful waves, with crew members eventually forced to dive into the water on September 29.

Border guards and fisheries surveillance forces promptly rescued all fishermen, brought them safely ashore, provided medical care, and towed the distressed vessel to safety.

In a separate incident, rescuers are still searching for 17 anglers reported missing after their boats were hit by massive waves off the coast of Quang Tri province.

Authorities also confirmed that Bualoi triggered at least eight tornadoes across several provinces, including Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, and Hanoi.

In Ninh Binh, the extreme weather left nine people dead and 18 injured. Eleven single-storey houses collapsed, 126 homes were damaged, and 53 utility poles were brought down.

Bualoi hit Vietnam early Monday morning with winds reaching 130 km per hour, leaving at least 19 people dead and 88 others injured.

The typhoon had previously caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and forced hundreds of thousands of families into evacuation centres.

The storm has now weakened into a tropical depression as it moves towards northern Laos.
