CHICAGO — A Pit Bull Terrier stranded in a drainpipe on the Chicago River was rescued Saturday afternoon by the Chicago Police Department’s Marine Unit and reunited with her owner.

Faroe, who had run off earlier that morning, was spotted near the Harrison Street Bridge by a boater who alerted police. At the same time, her owner, Brandon Hilliard, saw an alert about the stranded dog on a community safety app and contacted the Marine Unit through his sister.

Responding officers deployed a diver to coax Faroe from the pipe. Using one of her squeaky toys, they were able to calm her and bring her to safety.

“I’m so thankful a Good Samaritan spotted Faroe, and that my sister, the Chicago Police Department and everyone involved helped reunite me with my best friend,” Hilliard said.
