Los Angeles, United States - September 30, 2025 09/30/2025 01:20 am GMT-0700 Avalon – A 50 to 55-year-old man is recovering after allegedly being bitten in the right foot by a shark near Doctor’s Cove off Catalina Island early Tuesday, according to initial reports. The vessel Bottom Scratcher, a live-aboard dive boat, departed Catalina about 1:20 a.m. with the injured man on board. The crew met Los Angeles Fire Department boats in open water and transferred the patient to firefighters after he was bit by a shark during a channel swim, according to LAFD Fire Boat Pilot 5. The man, believed to be in stable condition, was taken to Fire Station 110 and later transported by ambulance to a hospital, according to the reports. The Coast Guard was notified of the incident however it does not appear they responded.
